1. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) – Emotional Quotient
EQ stands for Emotional Quotient and refers to a person’s emotional intelligence. It also reflects the ability to recognize one’s own emotions and those of others, making it easier to adjust and change one’s behavior appropriately for specific situations and conditions.
EQ analysis using the SWOT model is based on two main factors: the capacity for awareness of oneself and others; and the capacity for purposeful action through self-regulation and social skills.
EQ-SWOT analysis can be applied to candidates or employees in any occupation and of any age, especially in people-oriented roles and fields such as services, sales, administration and management, and education,…

2. Positive Feedback – Positive Feedback
Is giving praise and positive feedback during the work process easier than giving negative feedback?
Assessments often have two sides – positive and negative. How does the way feedback is delivered affect the listener’s emotions? Do employees feel that the praise is accurate? Does the assessment reflect how their manager sees them at work? Does the positive feedback encourage and motivate them?
People usually find it easy to notice shortcomings and provide negative feedback. They point out problems and seek quick improvements. But how might this make employees feel? They may feel that their other achievements are overlooked or that they are not trusted. Negative feedback reduces the listener’s confidence and can mark the beginning of hesitation in their actions and thinking.
Conversely, when used effectively, positive feedback creates an opportunity to strengthen the listener’s confidence. It becomes the starting point for future action and generates energy for developing each person’s potential.
The effectiveness of positive feedback is greatly influenced by the speaker’s EQ. The feedback itself matters, but the way it is delivered strongly affects how the listener receives and experiences it. The positive emotional value conveyed by feedback influences the listener’s energy and potential for action.
3. So, How Does EQ Manifest in Positive Feedback?
EQ-SWOT™ measures emotional intelligence, the ability to perceive one’s own emotions and those of others, and the effectiveness of using emotional information to guide thoughts and behavior.
Learn which factors improve the quality of positive feedback and how they relate to human EQ.
3.1. People interested in personal development.
Emotional self-awareness is the starting point for empathizing with and understanding other people’s emotions. These individuals are not influenced or misled by the outward appearance of emotions in the workplace. They can form sound judgments and assessments.
People who are committed to personal development, including emotional development, understand that others are also at a particular stage in their own journey.
In EQ-SWOT, several self-related skills include:
- Self-awareness: awareness of emotions and self-assessment.
- Self-regulation: self-discipline; emotional control; stress management; positive thinking; energy; personal vision; and appropriate decision-making.
3.2. Considering Others
Developing a mindset that considers others begins with emotional stability within oneself. When problems arise, people often focus on mistakes when giving feedback. Many employees lose motivation because their efforts are not recognized and attention is focused only on judging their mistakes.
Look at the entire process when providing balanced positive and negative feedback so that your assessment remains objective. Respecting other people’s emotions and contributions creates motivational value that supports future improvement.
In EQ-SWOT, social awareness skills are expressed through decoding others and empathizing with others.
3.3. The Desire to Motivate and Develop Others
We need to understand that each individual is at a particular stage of development and learning. People with high EQ often provide effective positive feedback because they want to motivate and develop others. They themselves serve as examples of daily growth through positive observations and through the way they communicate and assess situations and people.
3.4. Influencing and motivating others to take action and develop.
People with high emotional intelligence know how to bring out the best in others. This is applied through positive feedback to motivate employees. Positive feedback provides energy that drives action. Leaders and managers who care deeply about other people’s development provide highly valuable feedback. They help others see potential they may not yet have recognized or dared to believe they could achieve.
According to EQ-SWOT, the skills related to points 3 and 4 include self-expression, assertiveness, influencing others, collaboration, and relationship-building.
4. Current Limitations in Using Positive Feedback
Positive feedback can also create problems when it is not used appropriately. Employees may feel hurt when you change the way you provide feedback, especially if they believe their manager has changed and their efforts are being dismissed.
Many leaders and managers feel uncomfortable giving positive feedback because they believe they must give something up when recognizing another person’s value. They rarely use positive feedback because they remain focused on solving problems rather than on future potential and motivation.
Emotional intelligence is a learnable ability and a set of skills that can be developed. Apply the values of emotional intelligence and positive feedback in the workplace or in social relationships to see the value and changes they can bring.
