The pawn! Just as people often say, it is merely a sacrificial pawn. When you first learn to play chess, you probably think the pawn is useless: it can move only one square—or two squares on its first move. It is nothing like the knight, which can jump across the board even when many pieces are blocking the way ahead. Nor can it compare with the rook or the bishop, which can cross from one side to the other in a single move when the path is clear. And, of course, it should never be compared with the queen. The queen is considered the most powerful piece on the chessboard. It has all the powers of the rook and bishop. The only thing it lacks is the knight’s peculiar way of moving. The pawn is clearly useless. And it seems that soldiers on the battlefield are regarded in much the same way.
Yes, that is the way people who do not know how to play, or who have only just begun, tend to think. They often move pawns without a purpose, or move them aside to clear the way for other pieces. Pawns are even commonly sacrificed in exchange for other moves. I know that a pawn can be promoted to a queen when it reaches the opposite end of the board. But once you have played, you will understand. For a pawn to become a queen, it must overcome countless difficulties. There are dense ranks of enemy pieces ahead, and it can be captured at any moment. Don't think that simply moving a few squares in a straight line will get it to the end of the board and allow it to change “gender” (because people still think of the pawn as male and the queen as female).
You see! A pawn is merely a tiny, seemingly insignificant piece, but once it overcomes enough challenges and reaches the other side of the board, it immediately possesses the greatest power on the entire board. Don't you think that is also like us in society?
In fact, we are also like these pawns. At the beginning, we are nothing and have nothing. But if you have a clear purpose—for example, reaching the other side of the board—and you give it your all, you will encounter many unpleasant events on the way to your goal. Yet if you continue to make your best effort, once you reach where you need to be, you will possess exceptional abilities.
Every pawn carries the potential to become a queen. Likewise, we all have the potential to become successful. You only need to unlock it, identify the right goal, and give your all to develop. Everything you need to become great is already within you. You are the creator of your own life. That is also Quest's vision. We want to help you recognize your potential, bring it to life, and one day become a queen.
And of course, if we look at it the other way around, every queen may once have been a pawn. So when you reach a high position, do not forget to help the pawns around you. There was a time when you also had nothing, no experience, and limited abilities. They are just like you were when you started. Help them overcome difficulties and reach the other side of the board, and your company will become stronger as well. A team with many queens is always better than one queen surrounded by many pawns.
